Comment 1:   We are a relatively new organization with the office opening in October of 2005 and our Program of Work to date has included Parent Involvement Mini-grants awarded to all 33 schools (two rounds-$33,000), community forums on gang awareness, health and obesity, safe schools and internet safety, financial assistance to new and lateral entry teachers ($50 each), an education summit ("Educating Everyone Takes Everyone") in Sept. '06, the "ACE Educational Minute" (public awareness information shared at football games over the P.A. system), and tutoring and mentoring coordination for the schools. Proposed projects include a Heroes Media Campaign to affect students' self-esteem, a college and career laboratory for students and parents, and science and math mini-grants to the elementary schools.
